Alpine Club Kickoff: Crag & Climb Day

Join the Alpine Club for our inaugural event: Crag & Climb Day! Whether you’re a seasoned climber or new to the sport, this is the perfect opportunity to meet fellow Boise State students passionate about climbing and mountaineering. We’ll spend the day enjoying outdoor climbing at a local crag, practicing climbing techniques, and sharing stories about past adventures. Our goal is to help bridge the gap between sport/trad climbing and mountaineering, offering tips for those looking to take the next step in their climbing careers.

Expect a day of climbing, community building, and a chance to learn more about what the Alpine Club has in store this year!

Event Schedule:
9:00 AM – Meet at Boise State University (outdoor program office) for introductions and gear check.
9:30 AM – Head to local climbing crag (Black Cliffs).
10:00 AM – Warm-up climb, group safety briefing, and route planning.
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM – Group climbing sessions with optional instruction on belaying, lead climbing, and safe climbing behaviors.
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM – Lunch break (bring your own).
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM – Additional climbing and group discussions on climb ethics.
3:30 PM - 4:00 PM – Wrap-up and reflection: share goals for the year, upcoming trips, and leadership opportunities within the club.
