The Boise State Department of Philosophy is hosting Dr. Bert Baumgaertner (Computational Philosophy, University of Idaho) for his talk: "New Trails, Old Coastline: Humanities Takeover in the Era of Agentic AI".

The humanities resisted formalization for good reason: the old tools demanded that meaning-rich inquiry be flattened into something machine-readable. But the tools changed. Agentic AI works in natural language, and can engage metaphor, narrative, and interpretation *as* humanistic questions. Using the coastline as a governing analogy, I draw on three case studies from my own work — MARC, NARC, and Complementary Inquiry — and close with practical next steps for curious humanists.
