To support student learning, we, as instructors, should welcome students, get to know them as people, validate their abilities, demystify our expectations of them, and help them learn deeply. This workshop will explore how we can create this kind of learning environment. The first step in this process is building and maintaining trusting relationships with students. From there, we will explore how to cultivate a learning environment where every student feels they belong, matter, and can thrive. Finally, we will consider how to intentionally structure class sessions in support of learning.
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
-- Articulate strategies for building and maintaining trust with students
-- Cultivate a learning environment where every student feels they belong
-- Explain how adding structure to the course can support student learning
-- Develop ideas for how to monitor students’ experiences as learners and members of the classroom community

This is a hybrid event, offered both in person and online. Please note the address if you plan to attend in person, and the Zoom link if you plan to attend virtually. After registering for a hybrid workshop, you will have the option to add the event, which includes the Zoom link for the workshop, to your Google calendar. Also, you will receive a confirmation email of your registration that also includes the workshop link.
