Learning-focused feedback is feedback that’s given in support of student learning and focuses on specific, actionable guidance that students can use to move closer to the learning outcomes. In this workshop, we’ll explore not only why this is helpful to students but also how to do it in our own courses. One strategy is to use rubrics which communicate the standards to students and also help us provide feedback about where they need to focus future efforts. We will explore a variety of rubrics and analyze how they can help us communicate this learning-focused feedback. Finally, you will be able to start building your own rubrics.
By the end of the workshop, you should be able to:
-- Describe how learning-focused feedback supports students
-- Identify strategies that make providing learning- focused feedback efficient
-- Analyze different rubrics to determine the advantages and disadvantages to each
-- Create a rubric for an assignment by identifying appropriate criteria

Workshops in the Ten for Teaching series focus on essential classroom teaching skills. These workshops are aligned with the outcomes of the CTL’s Evidence-Based Teaching Certificate and support instructors in building the skills they need in order to earn the certificate.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This workshop will run for one week (Mon-Fri) and is designed for you to spend 20-40 minutes per day (slightly different each day) engaging with workshop content and activities. You will receive an invitation to the Canvas course a few days before the start of the workshop. All content will be available from the start so that you can work at your own pace.
