This workshop is designed to engage instructors in identifying the key challenges first-year students face as they transition to college. Participants will examine the differences between high school and college and how these differences can impact student success. The workshop will also highlight practical, evidence-based strategies that instructors can use to better prepare and support students for college-level expectations. At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
--Explain the most common academic, social and emotional challenges faced by first-year students
--Analyze how the high school environment differs from college and how that may affect first-year students
--Design an evidence-based student success strategy that addresses the bridge between high school and college-level expectations.
This workshop fulfills one activity in the First Year Focus Endorsement. For more information, visit the FYF endorsement website.
