About Us

The purpose of this club is to design, build, and test model rockets. We will build rockets to legal specification limits for launch, but builds that lie outside of specification limits will be constrained to static fire tests. Meetings in the copper basin building every Monday and Friday at 4:30pm!

Our Team

Leadership

Hunter Gregory

Founder/President/Systems Engineer

I am the main Systems Engineer and Project Manager for the team. I am an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student with an EE Minor and emphasis on Mechatronics. I have worked with rockets for 4 years now, including leading my high school rocket club. My main expertise is in Solid Rocket Motor design, as well as Guidance, Navigation and Control. I am L1 certified with Tripoli and working on L2 at the moment. Previous experience also includes work with airplanes, circuit design, avionics, etc.

Madison Long

Vice President

I Co-Founded BSU Rocketry Club and hold the Vice President position. I'm focusing on our avionics design and integration for the rocket. I’ve been a Peer Educator for Engineering Dynamics and System Modeling and Control. I've completed a few internships including completing analytics for ON Semiconductor and most recently designed, built, and tested a Hydraulic Power Unit for small aircraft at AERO Specialties.

Brayden Whitaker

Financial Officer

I work with Solidworks, anything CAD for frame design and structure analysis. I assist and guide the team when it comes to structural and DFM design. I am working on my L1 and L2 certifications. Currently a Senior at BSU graduating in spring him has 3 years of design experience for autonomous robotics and the BAJA SAE team.

Airframe

Vincent Kuehlthau

My name is Vincent Kuehlthau and I am currently in my junior year studying Mechanical Engineering at Boise State University. On campus I hold positions as the Vice President of the BSU Sporting Arms Club and Airframe Design Engineer for the BSU Rocketry Club. I specialize in rocket prototyping and CAD for the Airframe Design Team.

John Hinchman

My name is John Hinchman and I am currently in my junior year studying Mechanical Engineering at Boise State University. As part of the payload division, I specialize in payload collision testing and impact absorption technology. Outside of academics, I work to satiate my cravings of the outdoors, whether that be endurance road-biking, backpacking, rock-climbing, and much more.

Dave Walters

I have worked with rockets for 7 years, and am a member of Tripoli and NAR. I also have extensive experience with OpenRocket software

Thomas Lawson

Airframe designer and manufacturing member. Former mountain bike racer

Ian X Peña

My name is Ian, I’m currently studying mechanical engineering at BSU while working at the university’s Thermal Transport & Solar Energy Laboratory as a research technician. I have served as a mentor to over a hundred aspiring engineers through my work with the Idaho Science & Aerospace Scholars (ISAS) Program. This year, I’m specializing in airframe design and finite element analysis for the design.

Payload

Dylan Brown

I’m Dylan Brown, a Junior currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Boise State University. I am currently a Student Research Technician at the university’s Ceramic Microelectrical Mechanical Systems Lab where I created Low-Temperature Co-fired Ceramics Devices for Agricultural, Medical and Aerospace applications. I have been a Systems Engineer, Co-Team Lead, Outreach Officer and Mentor for BSU NASA Microgravity NExT Team.  Currently I am the Payload Mechanical Specialist focusing on Computer Aided Designs for the BSU’s Rocketry Club.

Maddie Jackson

I’m Maddie-Jack. I am a junior pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in applied mathematics! I am one of the payload engineers here at the rocketry club. Outside of rocketry, I serve as a senator for the College of Engineering in our university’s student government (ASBSU), and work in an on-campus lab studying materials under extreme conditions.

Micayla Kuhn

My name is Micayla Kuhn and I am a freshman at Boise State majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Thearte Arts. I am the teams media lead doing all I can to get the word of our club out there. Before becoming a member of this team I started a Rocket Club at my highschool as well as a STEAM outreach club to spread the joys of engineering.

Alex Smith

Current Computer Science Student at BSU. Currently working on the avionics and programming section of payload. Previously worked with OpenCV for the NASA Microgravity NeXT Spotter competition.

Gabe Guthrie

My name is Gabe Guthrie and I am currently in my junior year studying Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Applied Mathematics. Last year I studied abroad at Nanyang Technological University’s prestigious Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in Singapore. As a member of the airframe team, I share the responsibility of designing and testing the various fuselage sections and nosepiece of the rocket.

Mentors

Trevor Robertson

Graduate student at BSU currently working on a Masters. Former founder and President of Propulsion Club at BSU. Main experience is in turbomachinery and liquid propulsion.
