Many university employees are caregiving for a loved one or are deeply affected by caregiving through a partner, friend, colleague, or student. This session introduces compassion fatigue, often called the “cost of caring,” and explores how ongoing stress can impact anyone connected to caregiving, both at home and at work. We will share practical tools to recognize fatigue early, strengthen resilience, support caregiver colleagues, and foster a more caregiver friendly campus culture. Whether you support students, coworkers, family members, or community partners, this session is designed to help you better understand caregiving and support others in ways that promote well being for everyone.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize common signs of stress, burnout, and secondary trauma in themselves and colleagues.

  2. Apply practical strategies to strengthen personal resilience and maintain well being.
