Serve communities both near and far, learn about social and environmental issues, meet other Boise State students, and build your resume. You will join teams completing service projects in Hells Canyon, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and locally with St. Vincent de Paul!

You will dive into the issues related to your team before the spring break service project through the LEAD 225 academic course. LEAD 225 - Civic Engagement and Leadership Course

The Alternative Spring Break program includes a service-learning course that leads up to the spring break service projects. The academic course takes place during the spring semester. You have the option to register for 1-credit or 3-credits, or audit the course. Attendance is required. The class is composed of five Friday sessions from 1:30-4:15 p.m. Four sessions occur before the service project (2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14) and one is held after your return to campus (3/28). This fun and interactive class will provide you with opportunities to explore the theory of integrating service, education, and reflection to create meaningful change in communities both near and far. Through this class, you will get to know your fellow trip participants and staff trip leader.

Alternative Spring Break Trip Preferences

There are four different Alternative Spring Break trip options: trail maintenance and environmentalism with the Idaho Trails Association in Hells Canyon (Idaho); animal advocacy, stewardship, and rehabilitation with the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab (Utah); building healthy homes and exploring housing insecurity in the Treasure Valley with St. Vincent de Paul Society in Boise (Idaho). We ask that you select your first and second preferences. We will do our best to match students according to these preferences.
