Thank you for your interest in participating in this year's Homecoming Parade!

• Staging time: 4:30-5:30 p.m.
• Parade start time: 6:00 p.m.
• Staging Area: Morrison Center Parking Lot
• Deadline to register: Tuesday, Oct. 3 by midnight.
• Parade general guidelines (other terms and conditions may apply): 
  • All parade entries and floats should promote a culture of Boise State spirit and pride
  • All parade entries are limited to a max number of 20 participants in the staging area and on the parade route; including in the vehicle, on the float, or walking
  • All political entries must be sponsored by a student organization
  • Student organizations are eligible for one golf cart provided by ASBSU
  • Only student organizations are eligible for float competition prizes
  • Handing out (not tossing) candy and spirit items is encouraged, however, paper fliers are not allowed

Please fill out and submit the requested information.  After your submission is reviewed, your primary contact will be emailed a confirmation of your entry as well as some additional information your group will need in preparation for the parade.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

• All parade entries and floats should promote a culture of Boise State spirit and pride.

• All political candidates/political party entries must be sponsored by a Boise State student organization. The student organization sponsoring the political entry must fill out this form, and the submission must come from the student leaders of the group. No political entry will be accepted otherwise.

• No candy or materials may be thrown from parade vehicles and participants to spectators along the parade route. Parade participants wishing to provide giveaways should have walkers along the float to hand out the giveaways. DO NOT THROW ITEMS INTO THE CROWD.

• All University policies including the Student Code of Conduct apply to the parade including but not limited to prohibitions against smoking and weapons. 

• No alcohol is permitted on any parade floats, entries or on-site at the parade line-up. Anyone with alcohol will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to participate in any future parades.

• Paper fliers are not allowed.

• All floats will be subject to an inspection check for compliance with the Float Safety Requirements prior to commencement of parade. The Float Safety Checklist provided at check-in must be signed and in the possession of the driver at the start of the parade.

• Parade participants may not have squirt guns, silly string and other items that could lead to crowd control issues.

• Parade participants may not jump from or onto a float or motorized vehicle while it is moving.

• All participants riding on open floats shall have solid sitting arrangements with hand holds readily available to them. Any standing participants shall have a stabilized body support with buckled safety belt or other means to prevent falling from the unit. No person shall be wired or tied to the float. Secured safety rails, barriers, or ropes may be used to prevent a fall from the float. No unsecured riders may be located where they might fall beneath the float, its wheels or between tow vehicle and float (e.g. no seating on rear edge of tow vehicle,  or on front, side or rear edge of float). If present, children must be under adult supervision and seated at all times when in motion. Riders are to remain on the float once the parade begins and at all times when the float is in motion.

• No open flames are permitted on parade entries. Open flame displays, roman candles, flammable liquids or gases, and fireworks are prohibited on floats and tow vehicles.

• Generators or other equipment that use flammable fuel are not allowed on the float itself. Generators used to supply electricity to the float should be put in the bed of the pickup or hauling devices at least three feet from the float body. Any generator in a confined space (e.g. pick-up camper shell) shall not have any riders inside that same space.

• Electrical systems where used for lighting, motorized decorations or other application on a float, electrical wiring must be of a type approved for the use for which it is being employed, shall have sufficient capacity, shall be secured to prevent damage, shall have all connections secured via approved devices (or electrical boxes) and shall be properly fused. No bare wires or exposed electric connection are permitted.

• Float drivers shall have a valid driver’s license and be in competent condition to safely operate the vehicle. Driving under the influence of drugs or intoxicants is prohibited. For the safety of float riders, the driver must minimize abrupt starts and stops. The float safety checklist must be in the possession of the driver.

• Floats decorations shall be designed to allow the driver 180 degrees clear vision to the front and sides of the float or tow unit. If 180 degree vision cannot be provided, a spotter(s) with clear vision of these areas must accompany the float as a guide. Driver shall also have view of (or communication with) float riders in the event of a problem on the float.

• No ticker tape or confetti to be used on the actual parade route by parade participants during the parade due to the creation of fire hazards, engine air-intake problems, and clean-up costs.

• All drivers of floats or motorized vehicles must be able to provide proof of vehicle liability insurance and a valid driver’s license.

• Each float shall have a designated capable adult with the responsibility to ensure overall safety and fire safety.

• It is my responsibility to relay all terms and conditions to all participants of my float entry.
• No tandem trailers or other trailers, where the wheels are in the center of the trailer, are allowed for units that have people on them.
• The foundation for a tow float is typically a sturdy flat trailer bed with pneumatic wheels.
• All load-supporting areas on the float should be of wood, steel, or other structurally competent material (not cardboard).
• Wheels, tires, dollies, axles, and bearings of adequate sizes and strength to support the total load of the float are required.
• Wheels and tires should be in good condition and vehicle brakes sufficient to stop the float when loaded.
• The authority having jurisdiction over the parade shall have the exclusive right to ban any unsafe vehicle.
• The hitch used to attach the float to the pulling vehicle shall be factory receiver type or welded pickup style bumper. No bolt-on type hitches are allowed.
• When using a large truck, a drop-hitch must be used and should be at least 12 inches from the hitch to the ground.
• Towed and self-propelled floats shall be capable of maintaining a minimum speed of 5 miles per hour during the parade.
• The speed when float is occupied during the parade is limited to a maximum of 10 miles per hour.

• $500 will be awarded to the Grand Prize float,
• $250 to the most creative, and
• $250 to the most spirited float.  

• I recognize that in order to drive our assigned golf cart in the Homecoming Parade, I must complete an Authorized Volunteer Service Agreement with Boise State University. This form will be provided during golf cart checkout.
• I understand that all decorations placed on my organization's assigned cart must be removed after use, returning the cart to its original condition.
• I understand that when driving the golf cart in the Homecoming Parade, I can only carry the number of passengers as permitted by seats.
• I understand that when driving the golf cart in the Homecoming Parade, I will adhere to all prescribed rules and guidelines while operating the cart in the parade. For example: maintaining a safe distance between vehicles and pedestrians, observing a safe speed, and avoiding sharp turns.
• I will not leave the cart unattended and will not leave the key in the cart except when in use.
• If damage to the cart occurs, I will notify ASBSU and/or Student Life leaders immediately. If a significant incident occurs, Student Life will submit an Incident/Accident report to Risk Management and Insurance at the conclusion of the event. Further, if the golf cart is damaged by another vehicle, I will get the name and contact information of that individual. If a mechanical breakdown occurs, I will contact ASBSU or Student Life Leaders immediately.
• If an injury or accident occurs while the cart is in use, I will take appropriate action (i.e. first aid or calling 911 if an emergency).
• I will not, under any circumstances, text with or utilize a cell phone in any manner while driving the golf cart.
• I recognize any damage to the golf cart, if found to be the fault of my student organization, may be charged to my student organization's campus account.
