Fundraising

  • Fundraising Steps

Want to solicit donations? Anytime your organization wants to sell items, ask for donations, or be paid for a service, follow these steps:

    1. Complete an event registration on CampusGroups and select “Fundraiser” as the type of event you’re planning. Check the Event Planning Timeline and plan ahead.

Please note: Most fundraiser event registrations need to be submitted at least thirty (30) - sixty (60) business days prior to your proposed event (if you are selling merchandise, requesting donations from individuals/companies, etc.). You may not have all the details lined up but it’s beneficial to submit your registration sooner rather than later. Some circumstances may extend this timeframe.

Schedule time with the Student Involvement and Leadership Center to discuss your fundraiser idea before making final decisions, agreements, spending funds, etc. You can also go to the Student Organizations Handbook and read the information under Section 4 for more information on this topic.

    2. Once your fundraiser is approved by the Student Involvement and Leadership Center and Shared Business Services, you can proceed with executing the fundraiser.

    After Your Fundraiser:

Is the fundraiser's intent to benefit your student organization?

After your event, you will deposit the money (cash or check) into your organization’s account.

    • The deposit box and how-to directions are located to the right of the Information Desk in the Student Union. Envelopes/deposit slips provided.
    • Make sure donation checks for your organization are made out to ‘Boise State University’ with your student org name in the memo line.

In the fundraiser's intent to benefit another organization, like a charity?

Money must go directly to the charity. Please do not deposit those funds into your student organization account.

Ready to access and spend money from your student organization account?

Check out the How to Spend Money page.

If your student organization’s fundraising plan is to raise funds using a PonyUp campaign you may contact a PonyUp Crowdfunding Coordinator directly at University Advancement to get started. University Advancement can also be reached via phone at (208) 426-3276 or (800) 341-6150.

  • Want donations or payments via credit card?

Looking to accept online payments for your student organization, sorority, fraternity, and/or campus activities? eMarket may be the answer to your question. Are you selling something like tickets or apparel, or looking to accept online payments for your fundraiser? Check out our eMarket Request form.

Note: Due to staffing shortages in the University Treasury Department, it will take at least 5 weeks to create a new eMarket site. We will keep this site updated if the timeline shortens in the future. The PonyUp Crowdfunding site is recommended for collecting donations online.

  • Fundraising Ideas

Here are a few ideas to get you started and get those fundraising gears turning! If you are planning on using any of these ideas to fundraise for your organization, you will need to submit an Event Registration.

    • Restaurant Give Back: A restaurant provides a portion of its profits, during a set time period, to a student organization as a charitable donation. Reach out to some of your favorite restaurants and see if they’d be interested in partnering.
    • Silent Auction: Your organization could host a silent auction, where students/guests can submit bids on items you either make or purchase. These donations can be deposited directly into your Student Organization account.
    • Donation Jar: Simply put, your club/organization sets out a jar and receives donations. Granted you submit a fundraiser request, this is an easy-to-implement fundraising option and can be replicated throughout the academic year.
    • Merchandise Sales: Selling apparel (t-shirts, hats, stickers, etc) and your club makes a profit off the sales, this is a great way to fundraise for your organization while also acting as a marketing/promotion strategy!
    • Crowdfunding (PonyUp): If your student organization’s fundraising plan is to raise funds using a PonyUp campaign you may contact a PonyUp Crowdfunding Coordinator directly at University Advancement to get started by contacting ponyup@boisestate.edu. Submitting an Event Registration will be your first step.
